"Fistularia immaculata (Cuvier, 1816) Fistularia patimba (Lacepède, 1803) Fistularia rubra (Miranda Ribeiro, 1903) Fistularia serrata (Cuvier, 1816) Fistularia starksi (Jordan & Seale, 1905) Fistularia villosa (Klunzinger, 1871)"
F. petimba is located between the depths of 10- 200 m of the water column (May & Maxwell, 1986). It was reported that the species had been caught with gill net from 7 m depth (Baron and Sande, 2007), with bottom trawl net from 60 m depht (Thangavelu et al., 2009), and with two boat pelagic trawl from 150 m depth (Yasemi, 2012). The known maximum total length of the species was reported to be 200 cm, generally 180 cm (Sanches, 1991; Figueiredo et al., 2002). On the other hand, Fritzsche (1976) stated that there were individuals 100 cm and smaller.
"The body is extremely elongated and depressed, with a very long head featuring a tubular snout. There are two serrated ridges along the snout, and the mouth is small and oblique, with the lower jaw slightly protruding. The teeth are small, and the interorbital space is concave and smooth. Both the dorsal and anal fins are triangular, opposite each other and located posteriorly. The caudal fin is forked, with the two middle rays extremely elongated and filamented. Along the dorsal midline in front of the dorsal and anal fins, there is a row of narrow bony plates. The posterior part of the lateral line has a series of backward-pointing spines.
In terms of coloration, the head, back, and flank are reddish-brown. The common size of this species is 30-100 cm, with a maximum length of 200 cm."
"Fistularia petimba, is distributed in the Atlantic (southeastern Florida to Galicia, Spain), and the Indo-Pacific coasts (Red Sea, north to southern Japan and the Ogasawara Islands, south to Victoria, Australia). This species has been documented along the western and eastern Mediterranean coasts, including Spain, Israel, Syria, Cyprus, and Turkey.
It occurs between 10–200 m (33–656 ft) depth, but most often at depths of 18–57 m (59–187 ft) over soft substrates.
"
It primarily feeds on fish and shrimps.
