It is an invasive organism from the polychaete family.
Thorax 3.7 mm long, 0.7 mm wide, with 7 chaetigers. Abdomen with 48 chaetigers. Branchial crown 1.2 mm long, with 20 radioles. Peduncle plus operculum 2.2 mm long; peduncle with shallowly defined constriction; funnel with 36 radii of pointed tips; verticil with 8 spines, strongly curved inwards; dorsal spine bigger than others; other spines similar in shape and size, with pointed tip, lacking knob; spines with one short basal internal spinule; without external and lateral spinules. Collar chaetae including 3 bayonet and 3 hooded capillary chaetae; bayonet chaetae smooth, with two blunt-elongate teeth; distal blade 140 µm long. Colouration- (preserved specimens): Body pale yellow, operculum dark brown.

Hydroides operculatus might have first arrived to the area near Mersin Harbour via shipping and then expanded its distributional range in the Levantine Sea.
