Summary:

The Fistularia commersonii which have migrated from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea by The Suez Channel is a lessepsian species. Golani first recorded this species in coasts of İsrael in 2000. This species was seen coast of the Antalya Gulf in the end of 2000 and fist recorded by Gökoğlu et all (2002) in the coast of Turkey.

Type Description

The dorsal fin has 14-16 rays, the anal fin has 14-16 rays, the pectoral fin has 13-15 rays, and the pelvic fin has 6 soft rays. The number of vertebrae is 83-86 (Myers, 1991). There is a long whip-like tail. The head is long, the mouth is funnel-shaped, and it is about 1/3 of the body length (Gökoğlu et al., 2002). It is reported to have a brownish-green color on the dorsal side and a grayish color on the ventral side (Lieske and Myers, 1994). The maximum length is 150 cm. 

Habitat

 It is found to inhabit depths between 0-128 meters (Myers, 1991)

Reproductive Information

The winter season is the time for spawning (Lieske and Myers, 1994).

It feeds on Crustacea and small fish (Watson and Sandkop, 1996).
