There are amphibian species which are in a dynamic of expansion in certain
territories and are likely to be qualified as invasive alien species. And yet, the
number of invasive reptiles and amphibians is increasing, facilitated by the
persistently high globalization of human activities. The most common pathway for
invasive reptiles and amphibians is the often-illegal trade of exotic snakes and frogs
as pets. Another common pathway is release for biological control, where a new
species is introduced in an attempt to control a pest species. Invasive amphibians
and reptiles can harm the natural environment or adversely affect people's health,
native ecosystems and the local economy if they are not detected early, identified
and managed.
